Neighbourhoods – An introduction

Kitchener-Waterloo

Kitchener-Waterloo sometimes appears to be a newcomer on the world stage, but our history is long and legendary. We have been know as an powerhouse for such industries as: furniture making, textiles, electronics, auto parts, education and most recently – technology. Notable names like Walter Zeller, William Lyon Mackenzie King, Ross MacDonald, Lennox Lewis, Howie Meeker and of course Berlin, which was the original name of Kitchener are all part of our heritage.

Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge is the 10th largest metropolitan area in Canada and the 5th largest is Ontario. We are a vital part of the Innovation Corridor and Canada’s Technology Supercluster but we also remain the biggest small town I know. Our neighbourhoods are leafy and safe. And our city centres are modern and vibrant.

Neighbourhoods and lifestyle

For most people, neighbourhoods are more important than homes. Your neighbourhood is your lifestyle choice and will include many of the following considerations: great schools, low crime, friendly neighbours, good walk and transit scores, nearby shops and amenities, access to roadways and trails, parks, libraries and community centres.

Neighbourhoods are a reflection of who we are. It is where we live. In Kitchener-Waterloo, we have healthy and safe neighbourhoods, offering a variety of lifestyle choices for residents at every walk of life, at every stage of life.
