Breithaupt Park: A community neighbourhood

In Waterloo’s North Ward, another favourite neighbourhood of mine is the Breithaupt Park neighbourhood. Tucked around Breithaupt Park, the neighbourhood has great little bungalows on large lots, as well as an abundance of side splits and two storeys built mostly in the 1960’s. The neighbourhood has a wonderful community centre and pool, nice wooded parkland and some terrific restaurants along Lancaster Street.

This is a mature neighbourhood that is close to both downtown Kitchener and uptown Waterloo. When we first moved to Waterloo Region, we almost bought a house here because of the great location and because of the Park and Community Centre. It has two swimming pools, a gymnasium, a solarium and six meeting rooms, as well as an outdoor rink in the winter time. There is a splash pad and a hiking/biking trail.

Notable features:

Breithaupt Park and Community Centre

Giant Tiger

Woodside National Historic Site

Hacienda Sarria

Kitchener Railway Station

Schools:

Prueter Public School

St Teresa Catholic School

Margaret Avenue Public School
