Mount Hope is the new midtown
It is hard to imagine that the Mount Hope neighbourhood was once on the outskirts of town. But, it didn’t really get started until after the railway came to town in the mid 1800s. Then factories were set up near the rail line and a working class neighbourhood quickly followed. It has changed a lot over the years but the narrow streets and small houses remain as central features to its charm.
It is in an ideal location and as such is evolving very quickly into a midtown hub. From Mount Hope, you can have the best of both worlds as you can walk or ride easily into Uptown Waterloo, downtown Kitchener or take advantage of the shops in Midtown and Belmont Village. With Google in the neighbourhood and the upcoming intermodal transportation hub, everybody suddenly wants to live in Mount Hope. The popularity of Victoria Commons and the Midtown Lofts can attest to that.
