350 Doon Valley Drive

350 Doon Valley DriveMy mom lives just outside of Mill Bay on Vancouver Island. She lives in a little condo townhouse community nestled onto the side of a gentle hill. Being that it’s in BC, you can imagine the trees out back. (The street in front of her house is a quiet cul-de-sac). It’s an idilic spot and when my mom isn’t puttering around in the yard, she’s relaxing on the back patio. Her neighbors are wonderful. They get together for games of bridge and hikes and who knows what else.

I mention this now because when I first drove into the community at 350 Doon Valley Drive, I had a sense of deja vu. This little neighbourhood of about 70 homes, is located in a cozy little spot surrounded on two sides by a small forest of trees, a gentle and wide river and a golf course.

Alasdair and I just listed Unit 3C at 350 Doon Valley Drive. Unit 3C is a premier unit, tastefully decorated with a backyard that will make you think you’re on Vancouver Island or perhaps more accurately, like you’re in cottage country Ontario. This home backs onto a greenbelt which is actually a small forest, abundant with deer, rabbits and other wildlife. In the summertime, when you sit out on the large deck all you can see is trees, all you can hear is birds and all you can feel is serenity. In the wintertime, when the trees have lost their foliage, you look out your back windows and see our Grand River winding through Doon Valley. One thing I’ve noticed about Waterloo Region is that there are surprisingly few houses with a view of the Grand River.

Being from BC, I like to hike. It seems sometimes that all people do in BC is drink coffee and go on hikes. So the other day, Alasdair and I explored on foot the neighborhood around 350 Doon Valley Drive. There is a path in the corner of the complex that leads down to the river, the Walter Been Grand River Trail and the golf course. I like that, a lot.  You can follow the trail along the Grand River up past the Doon Heritage Village and the Waterloo Region Museum or you can cross over the pedestrian bridge into Blair and south to Galt. Or you can cross over the river into Deer Ridge. If you like exploring on foot or on bicycle, you’ve got lots of choices.

In the Doon Valley complex itself, the old farmhouse still stands on the property. It’s been completely renovated and converted into a clubhouse replete with a library, games room, and of course a large meeting hall (with a kitchen). It’s a gorgeous open concept building with thick wooden beams and high ceilings.

This is a beautiful home and location overlooking woods backing onto the Grand River. Enter from shaded porch into bright foyer, to the left is a formal dining room with built in cabinets, continue down the hallway to a large kitchen opening to a great room with a walkout to the 12’x30′ deck, what a view! The master bedroom with ensuite is to the right. Upstairs we have a guest suite featuring a loft, bedroom and bath! The basement is completely finished with a rec room, bath and bedroom. This is a very unique and beautiful home. Someone is going to be very happy living here.
